Kwikset SmartCode 914 Keypad Smart Lock (Amazon Key Edition – Amazon Cloud Cam required), Compatible with Alexa, featuring SmartKey in Satin Nickel

We have 3 of these installed at our house. We've had the one for about 2 years and snagged the camera and lock on a Prime Day deal. The Amazon In Home Delivery service isn't offered in our city, but we still love the lock and the camera. We just bought two more and saw that they discontinued the camera that goes with them. Based on other reviews, I wasn't sure if the lock was going to work without the camera or not but we took a chance. They most definitely work without the camera. It's a little annoying because only the lock with the camera shows up on my the Amazon Key app, so I had to manually input all of the user codes instead of digitally setting them up in the app. Other than that though I can use all three through my Alexa app and they all work with my Echo Plus. I love being able to double check if I locked the garage door from my couch or bed. I also love that I don't have to carry a key around anymore to get in my house. I would like to point out that the instructions are a tad bit misleading. When you put the battery pack in the lock and hold the lock button down, the deadbolt will retract and come back out a couple of times and then flash green if it was successful. If you watch it though, it only retracts halfway so you assume that it's jammed. It's not, it only goes half way for this step. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MESS WITH IT TO GET IT TO RETRACT THE WHOLE WAY IN THIS STEP... YOU WILL BREAK IT. Once you get passed that, install is a breeze. It just throws you for a bit that it won't retract completely. For the price point, you really can't beat this model. If I could figure out how to hook it up to my privacy fence without getting weather damage, I'd buy a couple more.

Needed to change my front door lock. Did not have much time to research but thought a keypad would be nice feature since my daughter often forgets her key. There are many locks in this market, and the apps and features are not the easiest to understand. I wanted something that I could easily reprogram. Remote locking and logging of entries would be nice.This locks does exceed my expectations but installation was difficult. Mechanically, if dropped into the existing holes where I removed the old lock. It appears Kwikset makes a regular version of this lock and an Amazon Key version. I got the Amazon Key version with the Cloud Cam. The instructions I got were for the regular Kwikset 914 which has Bluetooth. This one does not have Bluetooth, it connects with the Cloud Cam and every thing is controlled through that. Nothing in the documentation made that obvious and set up took way too long because I was trying to Bluetooth to the lock through the Kwikset app. I realized I needed to install the Cloud Cam and use the Amazon Key app to control the lock. They need to make this clear, I am very technically oriented and still was frustrated.Now that it is installed, it works well. Now I am notified of every lock and unlock with video of my foyer. I haven't used the Amazon Key feature which allows Amazon delivery access to put stuff in my foyer. I might use that selectively if I have high dollar items and I am not home. Time will tell on battery life. I like that I can lock my door with one button on the lock as I leave. I can also lock/unlock it through the Key app from any where. Programming a unique code for someone is easy and can be done from anywhere as well in case you want to grant access to your house to some one while you are away. I will probably update this review with more stars in time.

Alexa enabled! Great lock for the price, read other reviews for most as mine is about it being Alexa enabled. Like many many people I tried all sorts of crazy stuff to get it actually usable with Alexa only for it not to work. Nowhere did I find out how to actually do it and even the Alexa app says crazy stuff on how to do it. While sitting here thinking this sucks I had a brain storm and Boom it worked. (Once the lock is set up with the key app simply add and enable the key app skill to Alexa) and problem fixed. Alexa now fully controls the locks. Why the Alexa app and everything else says all this other stuff instead of this I have no clue 🤦‍♂️. But there it’s is, the actual way to have it work with Alexa. Hope this saves others from the time and pain of trying to figure it out.

I did not pair the lock with the camera, I ended up returning the camera and getting a Samsung SmartThings Hub. I’ve been happy with the simplicity of outside buttons with a key slot as backup. With smartkey I was easily able to match the key with a Kwikset handle. The software in the lock did get glitchy after I first paired it. Once I did a factory reset and started over everything has been stable for months. Using a SmartThings Hub I can easily add and share codes, remotely lock or unlock. Get notified when guests arrive and leave. Things I wish they had designed in: 1) an easier way to replace the batteries. The internal plastic panel is too small to allow the battery cartridge to come out. Thus, you have to remove two screws to replace the batteries. After 5 months my batteries are still at 80%. 2) A way to be notified if there were more than 2 failed attempts to unlock.
